My first dog was a Schipperke
who I got when I was 11 years old. I got him from a breeder who I
had helped at dogshows and at home with her dogs. I started when I
was 8 years old! I took care of all the dogs in the neighbourhood.
And this breeder lived just a little bit from me. So she promised me
a puppy some day as thank for the help! My parents did not
want a dog.And my father said that I should not believe what that
breeder told me perhaps she just said that about a puppy to get me
to do more for her and her dogs. But one day the breeder came with a
little puppy. And it was a very cute little puppy so even my
father melted. When I was 18 and moved from home my father did not
want me to take that dog with me, so he staid with my father. That
dog became 17 years old. |
My first dog was a mix
thath my neighbourg gave me for 15 days cause she was on holiday. At
the end she stayed here for 15 years and half.....was a female about
5 kg with short coat ..then my first show dog arrived in 1991 , an
akita inu. The first Tibetan Terrier arrived in november 1994 from
Char Su Kennel in California |
When I was with my parents, I
had a « german Sherperd dog » and an “Afghaanse Windhond” when I was
18 years old I meet a Lhasa Apso breeder. This sweet lady wanted
someone to help her, specialy for the shows. She showed me the
strange world of the breeders and became my mother in love for the
Tibetans breeds. I bought my first Lhasa and start the shows
|
I grew up with a German
Shepherd Dog that my mom bought at the farmer's market
when I was about 5 years old.
The very first dog I personally owned was a
Maltese/Chihuahua cross that
was given to me when the neighbors across the
street decided they didn't
want her anymore; that was back in 1981. |
I got my first Tibetan
Terrier in 1987 from Su-Khyi Kennels. She was a beautiful
tri-color puppy and of course I thought she was perfect. Her
name was "Simply Charming" or Charm. |
My first dog was a Rottweiler
for obedience in 1975.
| |
 |
|
 |
|
2. What made you decide to acquire
a Tibetan Terrier? What attracted you to this breed?
|
|
 |
|
 |
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
After my Schipperke I tried
some other breeds but I did want a dog with lots of coat and when I
saw a Tibetan Terrier I was lost! That was THE DOG!! Perfect size
and with lots of coat and with temper! I thought it would suit me
perfect! I contacted the breeders in Sweden at that time to get a
puppy. So in 1973 I bought my first Tibetan Terrier.
|
The akita inu was a male with
a strong caracter. One time in 1992 i saw at the bundessieger some
tibetan terriers for the first time. I had a lot of difficult thath
time to show my akita cause i am not too big in size..so i thought
to go on more small dogs and the tt captured my eyes cause of the
caracter and the pleasure they have to stay together with other
dogs. All opposite of akita inu |
When I was In Brussel
dog show, in 1990, I meet a very friendly breeder of TT’s, Mrs
Claude MILLION. She was with her wonderful LADAKH LHA CHEN TSCHOWO,
it was a revelation for me, I wanted a dog as this one. I prefer the
look of the tt than the lhasa, more naturel, sporting and so quite.
Tschowo was grey and I stay to like the black and the grey
|
I credit my start in TTs to
my mom. She found a stray dog one day when she was out shopping many
years ago. She called the pound but they were full, so after waiting
to see if the dog's owners turned up, we kept her. Our little stray
was probably a Lhasa cross, but mom was so entranced with her that
she started looking at dog books for a similar but slightly larger
breed. She read about the Tibetan Terrier and thought they sounded
just right. Then she went to a dog show and happened to see one.
Later she managed to find one listed for sale in the newspaper and
bought her. I was living at home at the time so got to know Hilary
well and loved her personality, size and look. When mom bred Hilary
in 1984 I kept one of the puppies. |
I met a German woman in
Afghanistan who had a Tibetan Terrier with her. We stayed at
the same place and I got to know both her and her dog. I was
young and not really ready for a dog at that time but told myself
that when that time did come, I would look for a Tibetan Terrier.
So fifteen years later, when my husband suggested a dog, I
knew just what I wanted to look for. |
I wanted a healthier and
smaller breed. I did some reading and found the TT's and fell in
love with the look. | |
|
 |
|
 |
|
3. When did you first have an
interest in showing your TT and what made you decide to actually show
him/her? |
|
 |
|
 |
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
My first Tibetan Terrier
broke her hip badly when she was about 8 month. She never got
healthy again. Then I succeded in bying an adult TT from the same
breeder. That bitch was shown and it was all clear that I should go
on showing her. ( I had been showing my Schipperke too.) I alredy
had my way clear: show and breed! |
I started to go to show dog
with my akita so was normally for me did it also with my first
tibetan terrier and when i buyed her i asked to have a show dog.
|
My first TT was LADAKH LHA
CHEN GUINESS, grand-son of Tschowo. Claude was hill and it was
impossible for her to breed and to show her dogs, I wanted to
show her work. Now I like to see the work of the others breeder and
to show mine.
|
My mom purchased a Tibetan
Terrier in late 1983 after seeing one at a dog
show. Hilary had been sold to
her original owners as a show dog. Although mom
bought Hilary as a pet, we
decided to try showing her. |
Since my mentor breeder,
Winnie Wuesthoff, only had a show quality bitch left when I inquired
about a puppy, I agreed to show the puppy. Little did I
realize where that would lead me! |
When I bought my first
TT,LanLin's California Cooler, the breeder asked me to show him. As
he got
older I could see what a
beautiful dog he was so I started showing him.
| |
|
 |
|
4. Tell us about your first dog
show experience? Was your experience positive or negative at the
show? |
|
 |
|
 |
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
My first show with Tibetan
Terrier was that bitch Buzara´s Djamba-zi and she got her cc at he
first show with me and became champion rather soon! So I thought
showing dogs was very fun! |
Very positive cause i like a
lot stay outside for some days and travel with my dogs
|
Guiness was very quickly a
big winner, at his first international show he was CACIB, BOB with
the title of Belgian Winner, it was at Brussel in 1994.It was
positive to see a lot of dogs of everywhere, from different
bloodlines. But the people were not really friendly, I was just the
owner of a nice TT, not breeder, nobody knows me and I was on the
first place! |
I have to say I really don't
remember; it was such a long time ago. I'm sure
we must have had a pleasant
time as we went back for more shows, and I am
still going to dog shows more
than 20 years later!
|
I was living in Idaho, USA at
the time, a state without much population and without many Tibetan
Terriers. I was the only person showing a Tibetan Terrier.
Of course, I was very nervous even though there was no
competition. After I had been in the ring, I screwed up my
courage to talk to the judge. I think this is something that
novice show people often do. I am inclined to discourage
newcomers to the show ring to do this. For me it was a
negative. The judge did not like my dog and was highly
critical. In retrospect, knowing what I know today, I'm
shocked that he was so willing to give such a negative opinion and
am surprised at how he could be judging Tibetan Terriers when his
evaluation showed a lack of understanding of our breed and its
qualities. |
My first dog show in
conformation was in Las Vegas, Nevada, a little warm
outside but very positive.
(we won) | |

|
5. Did you take show (handling)
classes before you started to show your dogs? |
|
 |
|
 |
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
I think I learned to
show dogs was from that Schipperke-breeder and by watching other
people showing their dogs. When I was a little girl I arranged
"dogshows" at home with all dogs in the neigbourhood! I was always
the judge! I had not got the rules clear so in the same class I had
a boxer, an airedaleterrier and a german shephard. But both I and
the other childreen had fun with our dogs! |
A very famous handler learned
me how to show a dog , then iimprove myself showing also other breed
and try to see the other handler |
In France we haven’t
show classes |
I don't think I went to any
handling classes until after we started to show
dogs.
|
I did take show classes.
They were of value for me in learning a little about
presentation and ring procedure. |
No- I saw a handler that
impressed me the way she showed the TT's, so I
tried to copy her. The
handler owed the sire of my dog.
| |
|
 |
|
 |
|
6. Can you tell us about some of
the results (successes) you've had with your dogs in the show ring?
|
|
 |
|
 |
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
I think the best results I
have had are those from our breedinggroup in the middle of the
1980th . We had five black dogs from five different litters, aged
from 1 to 9 years and all champions. In a breeders group in Sweden
at that time you should have five dogs frrom at least two different
litters. Then we was one of the topbreeders all breeds in Sweden.
The dog that is best known with his show results is Mocowodos
Bambozzle. Mocowodos Chummy-Li and Mocowodos High Hope Henrietta was
two topdogs. Henriettas daughter Mocowodos Ouida Octavia the Only
was also a very nice bitch to show! |
I had several success with my
dogs and i did with them a lot of championship in several
states....But i remember several show who have a special place in my
mind. My first very importamt show outside Italy was the world dog
show in Wien in 1996 and there i had the res cac with Char su Joy
ride. A great result for me cause i was at the beginning with
tibetan terrier. Then in 1998 she got the European champion and
follow other titles. Other success i can remember well was the
European Champion i got with Black and White Magic Millenium,a
daughther of Char Su joy Ride and then i remember well the best in
show junior i got with a daughter of Black and White Magic Millenium
, Lost Valley Babs chu chen po in Novigrad. |
We have 31 titles of champion
at home (International, European, French, Belgium, Luxembourg,
Nederland, Germany) and several nice placements in World or European
shows with only 10 dogs in show. Some of them are not only Show dogs
but are well in Agility, Fly-Ball and AAA
|
Many of my dogs have been
very successful at the shows and have been ranked in
the top 5 TTs in Canada. We
have won many group placements and best puppy in
groups, and even a couple of
best puppy in shows.
Our National Specialty show
and Supported Entry/Booster wins in both Canada
and the USA include many
class placements plus: Grand Futurity winner, Best in
Sweepstakes, Best in Breeders
Sweepstakes, Winners Male, Winners Female,
Reserve Winners Female, Best
of Winners, Best Puppy, Best of Opposite Sex,
Best Bred-by Exhibitor, Award
of Merit, and Best of Breed.
Our most recent major
accomplishment was at the TTCA National Specialty in May
2006 where Jetsun won Best of
Winners and best Bred-by Exhibitor. |
Most recently, at our
National Specialty show, my young girl was WB. One of my young
boys was Best in Sweepstakes. I've had other nice wins through
the years including a BOS at a National Specialty show.
|
As a child I always wanted a
dog good enough to show in New York city at
Westminster Kennel club. So
winning best of breed at Westminster with my
first TT was one of my
biggest successes. I also have had some great puppies
that have done some great
winning over the years like best of breed (Worldwinner 2000) at the
World Show Italy from CharSu American Sunshine ,or best of breed
regional specialty are just a few.

7. Who was/is your favourite show
dog? What qualities make/made the dog your favourite?
|
|
 |
|
 |
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
My favorit bitch to show was
Mocowodos High Hope Henrietta and also her daughter Mocowodos Ouida
Octavia the Only. Henrietta was a rather big bitch but with
outstanding movements and Octavia was a very feminine smaller bitch
with lovely coat! The male I do remember best was Hardacre
Hi-Fi my english imported dog. He was lovely to show! He just went
in to the ring telling everybody "Here I am!!". He had also lovely
movements! I believe he thought it was fun to go to the show! I
think what makes a dog to a "showdog" is that he enters the ring
telling everybody "Here I come!!" Mocowodos Just Little me of Jamba
was a daughter of Hardacre Hi-Fi and Buzara´s Djamba-zi, she was
also lovely to show with much of her fathers "go" in her!
|
My favourite show dog is my
Black and White Magic Millenium . I like her a lot in tipe of course
but i like her caracter and her pleasure she has to go to show dog.
She lves them and she moves so nice in show cause she know she had
to win. This is very important for a show dog. If a dog is beautiful
but does not like go to show i think thath cannot do too much. For
the dog, the time of the show had to be a nice moment.
|
Guiness stay my favourite
show dog, he maked the “work” alone and was so sure of him, he’s got
a great personality when he was on the ring he wanted to show all
his qualities to the judge.. |
I would have to say the dog I
am showing now, Jetsun (Ch Kyeri's Jetsun Karchu), is my favourite.
I love his temperament, size, structure, movement
and coat. He is really
learning to love showing, and that happy attitude makes it fun for
both of us. |
There are two dogs which were
a great deal of fun to show and finish. One was Ch. Sheydon's
Cha-Shah who I showed and finished for his owner Marteen Nolan and
the other was Ch. Woodruff's Oliver who I bred and co-owned with
Peggy Greenbaum. I enjoyed showing each of these boys for the
same reason. These boys both knew how to move! They
would both move out to the end of the lead and do what I call "the
flying trot". It is a trot with a slight suspension and
a good bit of extension. Calling what they were doing a
flying trot might be a misnomer but when I go around the ring with a
dog that can naturally do it, it feels like we are flying!
|
My favorite dog to show was
Cooler, he was always saying LOOK AT ME. He
was always the show men, and
he loved it and that made is very easy to show
this wonderful dog.
| |
|
 |
|
 |
|
8. Which of your dogs is your
favourite show dog now? Which dog is your favourite dog to live with and
what qualities make him/her so? |
|
 |
|
 |
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
Today I have a bitch
Mocowodos Ay am Ammelie who is born august 2005 and she also has
lovely movements but needs a little more selfconfidence still. But I
think she will come and be my favourite show dog! My favourite
dog at home is the mother of Ammelie, Myrlea Centrefold. She is
Swedish champion but does not love shows but she loves to be with
mum! She is sleeping at my pillow and when we are out walking she
goes with her nose at my knee! She can not be put behind a fence if
I leave her! |
Again Black and White Magic
Millenium for now. Her caracter is for me special and she really
likes the ring and say to the judge: hey look at me i'm beautiful!!!
|
Now my favourite is my
special girl Gyi-Lin, but now. I can’t to show her because she loves
me to much and Gauthier shows Gyi-Lin so well! Gyi-Lin is also
my favourite dog to live with, she’s always sweet, happy and so easy
everywhere and with every people or dog! She can to follow me
everywhere, she’s got for me the biggest quality of the TT:
adaptable (flexible).
|
Jetsun is my favourite show
dog. All my dogs are my favourite to live with,
each for a different reason.
They all have very special personalities and make
me laugh a lot.
|
At the moment, I'm enjoying
showing my young boy Victor. He is quite a challenge and I
don't ever know how we will do and I guess that's what makes it fun
and interesting. He could go around the ring sniffing at the
floor for bait. He could go around the ring putting only two
feet on the ground. He could go around the ring chasing the
dog in front of him as if he were a girl in season. Because of
his tremendous attitude and heart, it is always interesting and a
challenge. When he gets it right, it really feels great.
And at home?? My
senior citizens are my favourites at home. They love to
snuggle up with me when I'm reading, working on the computer, or
watching TV. They always make me feel well loved.
|
I don't have a show dog right
now, but my fingers are crossed for a young
puppy I have right now.
I don't have one favorite to
live with. All the TT's are wonderful to live
with. They are always glad to
see me, they listen to me (most of the time)
and we all watch tv together
at night. | |
